Tutorial: Using Jaspersoft Studio to Access Data Behind a Firewall

In this tutorial, you'll learn how to use DataDirect to connect Jaspersoft to an Oracle database behind a firewall via the cloud.

Jaspersoft Studio is an Eclipse-based editing tool for TIBCO JasperReports Business Intelligence reporting software.

By using Jaspersoft Studio, your company can design and run reports, build templates and report queries, or create many types of charts, tables and custom visualizations. Jaspersoft Studio also integrates with TIBCO JasperReports Server for report publishing workflows.

You can learn more about Jaspersoft Studio from the Community page:

With Jaspersoft Studio you can build documents of any complexity from your data—from print-ready in PDFs to interactive masterpieces in dynamic HTML, with navigation to interactive components, like maps and charts that may be inside or outside the report. You can generate high quality OpenOffice, PowerPoint , RTF, Word, and spreadsheet documents or you can generate raw CSV, JSON, or XML documents.

It's not difficult to build your own custom exporter to suit any data need. Using Jaspersoft Studio, you can access different types of data sources, including big data, CSV, Hibernate, Jaspersoft Domain, JavaBeans, JDBC, JSON, NoSQL, TIBCO Spotfire® Information Links, XML, or your own custom data source.

In this tutorial, we'll demonstrate how to use DataDirect Cloud and JasperStudio running in AWS to access Oracle data behind a firewall.  While the steps in this tutorial demonstrate a connection to Oracle, the same steps are applicable to any other data sources supported by DataDirect Cloud.

Why DataDirect Cloud?

DataDirect Cloud is a powerful hosted connectivity service that provides a single point of universal connectivity for all your data, whether in the cloud or on-premises behind a firewall. Connect through a single standard interface—SQL(ODBC, JDBC) or REST(OData).

DataDirect Cloud is a proven, cost-effective solution for standards-based connectivity to the highest-value sources in the market.  Data is accessed securely, even behind a firewall, without setting up a VPN or SSH tunneling.

For companies who prefer to host their own SaaS connectivity solution, DataDirect also offers Hybrid Data Pipeline, a self-hosted service with standard SQL (ODBC, JDBC) or REST (OData) interfaces.
